modernisation work great shower
The room was very clean. the modernisation has been done WELL. the shower was great. It worked well. staff were lovely and courteous.

the hotel is near the railway station, a short distance indeed. a lift exists for upper-level room access, useful. the provided instructions for reaching the place from the station proved helpful as well.. phones might suggest a hillier route, which this avoided.
the room felt quite warm. the heat was noticeable upon entering, and opening the windows brought in street noise.

poor ventilation broken fridge
The lack of proper ventilation made the room stuffy. a working refrigerator would have been appreciated, but it wasn't functioning for the first few days. these issues impacted my comfort negatively. And i expect better for what i paid. the broken fridge was a particular annoyance. i informed staff but the issue wasn't addressed , frustrating, we loved the location. but these issues need addressing.

dated room lack of amenities
the location was good, especially for visiting calton hill.
the room felt dated and the lack of simple provisions like shampoo was a letdown. getting a drink required asking reception, and i had to sit in the lobby. the tv didn't work well, and there was no phone to contact reception for assistance, this felt inconvenient.
